You MUST fix performance issues on your local machine before uploading it to the web. Rule of thumb: If the database is slow on your local SQL Server it’s just going to be slower on the web by many factors more. Your SQL migration may SLOW your Access database instead of making it faster. Step 2: Optimize your database for local use If you don’t know where are you going to host your database, than go the safe route and use 2008, since it’s very easy to migrate to 2012 but almost impossible to downgrade to 2008.

Sometimes it’s not possible to go this route: your client may not have the resources to do it or it’s too expensive because terminal services has licensing requirements and typically price by numbers of seats. You can purchase a remote desktop app for your tablet or phone and even remote in, something you can’t do with a hosted backend. To be fair, terminal services may be faster and provide a much smoother experience for your users. You may or may not have some tables local, but for the most part, all of the data is in a SQL Server instance running somewhere else and is accessible via the web. You no longer have the data locally and you are still running the Access frontend locally. It means you are moving your data to a hosted SQL Server database on the web.
